Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have joined forces with French aircraft in a joint strike targeting an hidden munitions depot in Syria employed by the IS group, according to the British defence ministry.
The location, identified by intelligence, was believed to be housing weapons and explosive materials, the release indicated, and was situated in hills just north of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"Our aircraft used precision-guided Paveway IV munitions to strike a several entry passages leading to the facility... initial indications are that the strike was effective," the MoD said.
There was no evidence of any civilian casualties in the operation late on Saturday and each participating jet returned to base without incident, the MoD added.
The British jets were backed up by a Voyager tanker plane.
Daesh - referred to as ISIS - enforced jihadist rule over significant areas in Syria and Iraq until 2019.
"This strike demonstrates British leadership, and resolve to operate in unison with allied nations, to stamp out any revival of Daesh and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the Middle East," UK Defence Secretary John Healey stated.
UK warplanes have carried out surveillance missions over Syria to "prevent any attempted resurgence" of Islamic State following its defeat at the battle of Baghuz in the year 2019, the ministry said.
"I want to thank the personnel of the UK armed forces participating in this operation for their expertise and their valour," he said. "They were among numerous British troops on duty over the festive period. This mission, to eliminate militants who pose a risk to our safety, shows how UK forces are ready to step up, all year round, keeping Britain secure domestically and strong abroad."
Last December, the American forces conducted what it called a "major assault" against IS targets in Syria, subsequent to an attack resulted in the deaths of two US troops and a local interpreter in Palmyra.
The United Nations says Islamic State still boasts roughly 5-7 thousand combatants in Syria and Iraq.
